What is an HPR
Hunt, Point Retrieve
An HPR (Hunt, Point, and Retrieve) dog is a type of gundog that is trained to do three key jobs when working in the field:
Hunt – The dog searches for game (like birds or rabbits) by using its nose to pick up scent and cover the ground efficiently.
Point – When the dog finds game, it pauses and “points” at it instead of chasing, showing the handler where the game is.
Retrieve – After the game is shot, the dog collects it gently and brings it back to the handler.
HPRs are versatile gundogs, meaning they can work on different terrains (fields, woods, water) and are used for both flushing and retrieving.
They are great all-round working dogs, making them popular for both hunting and as active pets for those who enjoy outdoor activities.
